Self drive directions

Pick up your rental car at Auckland airport or Taupo airport

Self drive direction - You are going to Horopito, where Lahar Sika Wilderness is located. It is very small old timber milling area in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand. Come to 192 Matapuna Road, Horopito.

Driving from the North, get to National Park village then drive south on S.H 4 for 20 minutes to the Matapuna Road sign.

Driving from the South, get to Waiouru then 30 minutes to Ohakune, take S.H 49 to Tohanga junction, right turn at the ‘T’ intersection then travel another 8km, this gets you to Matapuna Road.

FROM MATAPUNA ROAD.  Drive over the railway, around past ’Smash Place’ the Horopito car wreckers, then drive 2km up the gravel road to our gate - number 192 - with a wooden sign saying ‘Lahar Farm’. Turn into our homestead (the first house) and we will welcome you to Lahar Sika Wilderness.
